Cleaning your hamster cage
Clean the hamster cage or hamster aquarium regularly. This is important to keep your pet hamster healthy and less likely to develop illnesses. As I said earlier, hamsters are clean little animals, you'll notice they wash and groom themselves on a regular basis. Hamsters even have an organized manner of setting up their homes! You'll see your pet hamster sleep in a favorite spot, have another spot for their "toilet area", and store their food in a favorite spot. So it won't be too difficult for you to help your hamster maintain good housekeeping. You should clean the cage at least 1-2 per week.
While cleaning your hamsters cage, you can put your hamster in a small box or it's exercise ball for a few minutes. You should not leave your hamster in the exercise ball for more than 20 minutes.
As I said, hamsters are basically odorless, and any bad smell is probably because you need to clean the hamster cage. Change the bedding twice a week. Scrub the bottom of the cage with soap and water and let it dry before refilling it with new fresh bedding. Give your hamster fresh water and food every day. Remove uneaten food and droppings on a daily basis. Use a bottle brush to scrub your hamsters water bottle, and rinse it out good.
See? It's not too big of a chore. Thats all you really need to know about cleaning your hamster cage. Your pet hamster will appreciate the housekeeping help.
