The Romanian Hamster (mesocricetus newtoni) is similar in size and appearance to the Syrian hamster. The average size of a Romanian hamster is 7-8 inches. They are native to Romania and Bulgaria.

Romanian hamsters have been used as laboratory animals, but are not known to be available as pets.
